Torch Run Netherlands is a group of police officers who donate their free time to Special Olympics. As guardians of the flame, they bring the Flame of Hope to the opening ceremony of every Special Olympics event: without it there is no event. Since 2016 firefighters and staff from the Dutch safety regions join the runs. On Friday 11 September the Flame of Hope arrives at KR&ZV De Maas by land and by water, where it is lit to officially open the regatta.
